A dental treat only earns its place if your dog can actually finish it. Too big and a small dog gives up halfway; too small and a large dog swallows it whole without ever chewing.

So the bagged range comes in three sizes, each with its own flavour — a large-breed chew for serious chewers, a medium-and-large chew in coconut and mint, and a mini for small breeds. Same idea as our tubs, in a resealable bag and a size that fits the dog in front of you.

Small breeds — terriers, chihuahuas, dachshunds, toy crosses. The Mini in apple and coconut. Forty small chews to a bag, so it lasts even at one a day.

Medium and large — spaniels, collies, labradors, most crossbreeds. The Coconut and Mint chew. This is the default if you are unsure.

Genuine big chewers — mastiffs, shepherds, ridgebacks, anything that treats an ordinary chew as a single mouthful. Sweet Potato and Sage, in the large-breed size.

If your dog sits on a boundary, size up rather than down. A slightly large chew takes longer to work through, which is the point of the exercise; a slightly small one is gone before it has done anything.

All three are a complementary pet food and follow the same rule as the tubs: one a day, after a meal, not instead of one.
